In this article we answer the question: what are tooth veneers?
Tooth veneers are divided into resin veneers and porcelain veneers. Always when I want to put veneers on my teeth I want to change their shape, I am not satisfied with the shape of my teeth, their colour, some gaps I may have some breaks and I want to fix them I want to make a perfect smile.
Tooth facets
How can I do this? Either with resin or porcelain, they are two different procedures for tooth veneers. We choose which procedure to follow in contact with our patient. The patient comes to us on the first day expressing their wishes together we choose which procedure is best for them. There are different between the two procedures. In the following we present both options for tooth facets. Here you can find out what the tooth facets are.

Resin facets
Resin facings are, resin is a material we use. It is similar to what we use for white fillings. But it's completely different now in its microstructure. It polishes very well. It contains porcelain grains on the inside. So in recent years, the resins we've been using for the facings contain porcelain grains. Also the process with the resin facets is extremely conservative and extremely fast and quite economical than porcelain veneers.
Process of placing resin faces
The patient comes to the clinic, we make the first appointment, we choose based on his face, based on his smile, what shape we will follow. We choose which color we will follow and organize the day we will place them. We need about two hours for each jawline. It is extremely as I said before conservative procedure. We do not remove any dental substance from the tooth at all except in very few cases. It's done this way to match the entire shape of the teeth across the entire jaw and for that reason we don't have to remove any tooth substance and it's done in layers.
Material we use in resin facings
Inside is the first layer of the internal resin that covers the discoloration that my tooth has, and this material that we use in the base is extremely hard and prevents me from chipping. Second material that is used is to give me the translucency that a natural tooth has because with the resin veneers technique we are trying to simulate the tooth to my natural tooth. So it has to have transparencies, incisors and on the side of the tooth a material is put in which will give me the transparency of the tooth, the bluish blue that a natural tooth has.
And on the top surface will be either the final color that I have chosen to use, the color that I have chosen to make the resin face that we have chosen with the patient. After I have given the shape with these three resins in the end I polish the resin very well so that there are no small pores on the surface of the open that allow me easy penetration of pigments and need in a short time resin face change.
Maintenance on resin facades
Within a very short period of time and extremely conservatively, we completely change the patient's smile. The smile is made perfect in 100% in a very easy and quick way. At the end we give oral hygiene instructions. We demonstrate the way in which we should brush our teeth. And with a frequent recheck of the type once every six months when someone comes in for a simple cleaning and checkup, we maintain that smile for a very long time. So it really is worth following this procedure because the results will be rewarding that's the only thing that's for sure.
Porcelain veneers
Now, porcelain veneers are a process that's a little bit more complicated than resin veneers, we need a little bit more time to make them. It's slightly more invasive, meaning that most of the time we'll need to remove a little bit of tooth substance from the tooth surface, sometimes not, but most of the time we need to remove a little bit of tooth substance from the outer surface and a little bit of incisor from the tooth. We take an impression and we send it to the dental technician i.e. on porcelain veneers the dental technician who will make the porcelain veneers in his workshop, which will then come to us and we will glue them with permanent adhesive to the tooth surface.
Dental technician impressions for porcelain veneers
Before the whole procedure I did not say that impressions are taken and an initial study is done by the dental technician and based on the initial study of the shape to be followed, which is determined by the dental technician, we choose the shape that we will follow in the clinic, that is, we have the initial model sent to us by the dental technician which we pass it into the mouth before we even start any grinding on the teeth, we pass this model into the mouth with a material and so the patient is able to see the smile that will be made before we even do anything before we even interfere with the teeth in the slightest.
If this shape satisfies both us and the patient then and only then do we proceed with the procedure, so the shape that the dental technician will follow is the shape that he will make, the shape that he will be responsible for, the resin (porcelain) veneers in his laboratory is predetermined by us has been chosen by the dentist and by the patient, we have given the okay and based on this shape and color we have chosen the porcelain veneers are made and we finally glue them in the patient's mouth.
Why choose porcelain veneers
This process takes a little longer, i.e. it takes about 10-12 days to complete. Porcelain facings do not absorb any pigments. Because the material is created in the laboratory or fired in special ovens and polished with the material that the dental technician puts on top and thus cannot absorb pigments. This is a difference with resin veneers which after some years may possibly take up pigments and so usually the changes of porcelain veneers are much slower than resin veneers. It's a slightly more invasive process it takes a little bit longer. It is a more expensive procedure since the dental technician also intervenes. The result of course is excellent because the porcelain veneer is glazed, it's like glass and resembles a natural tooth extremely well.
Dental implants
Resin veneers and porcelain veneers are used to improve the patient's smile. But if there is tooth loss then tooth implants are needed. The best way to fill the gap left by tooth loss is dental implants. The placement of dental implants is done by implantologists. Mrs. Hadjipanagiotidou is an implantologist with a great deal of experience in dental implants.
