6 tips for healthy gums and bright smiles

If your gums are bleeding every time you brush your teeth, then you should start paying more attention to them than you have been doing so far.

The truth is that we often forget to take care of our gums, even if their care is not far from the attention we give to our teeth in the first place.

So whether you take care of them or neglect them, here are 6 useful tips to help you improve the condition of your gums and your overall oral hygiene.

Brush often

First and foremost, and if you are not already doing so, you should start immediately, make sure you brush your teeth at least on a daily basis. Brush, ideally, twice a day, but make sure you brush properly to do good and not harm your gums.

  • Don't put too much force. Light pressure is enough to get a proper cleaning.
  • Use a soft toothbrush. The soft bristles will massage the gums without injuring or bleeding them.
  • Brush by holding the toothbrush at a 45° angle. This way you will massage the gums without hurting them.
  • Make sure that the brushing lasts at least 2 minutes, in order to achieve, among other things, the fight against bacteria in the mouth.

Use the thread

Flossing, although not a procedure most people prefer, helps significantly in cleaning teeth and gum health. Flossing removes plaque and debris that would alternatively remain between the teeth, leading to swelling and inflammation in the gums.

At first, admittedly, it takes perseverance to get into the habit of flossing, but once it becomes part of your daily routine, you will seek it out, given how clean your mouth feels afterwards. Start by cleaning once a day while helping yourself by using floss with flavor.

Finally, if you have noticed halitosis, even if you are consistent and regular in brushing, then food left between the teeth is probably responsible. For these cases, flossing is the ideal solution.

Use mouthwash

The mouthwash not only keeps the mouth fresh, but also fights bacteria in the mouth. Find the flavour that suits you and include it in your daily routine after every brushing.

Eat cheese

If you are not in a place where you have access to a toothbrush and toothpaste, make sure you eat a piece of cheese, Swiss-style, which will help remove plaque and residual food on the teeth. Besides, a little extra calcium always helps with strong bones and teeth.

Chewing gum, without sugar

Chewing chewing gum freshens your breath and if you chew it for about 20 minutes after eating, you also clean your mouth - in a way. However, you should keep two things in mind: don't overdo it with the gum because you will end up having problems with your jaw and always avoid chewing gum with sugar, which instead of being beneficial, creates more problems such as plaque and more bacteria in the mouth.

Visit your dentist regularly

No matter how well you take care of your teeth, no matter how thoroughly you clean them every day, only your dentist can judge their condition and give them the best possible cleaning. Don't neglect your regular cleaning appointments and don't forget that the best treatment is prevention.
